A symposium on the study and implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Important Thoughts on Upholding and Improving the People’s Congress System was held in Beijing on September 14. Zhao Leji, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Zhao Leji stressed that we must deeply understand the fundamental principles of upholding, improving and operating the People’s Congress system, adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, adhere to the organic unity of the Party leadership, the people being the masters of the country, and governing the country according to the law, and deeply understand that “The decisive meaning of “two institutions” is to strengthen the “four consciences”, strengthen the “four self-securities” and achieve “two safeguards”.”

Mission and Tasks of the National People’s Congress

Zhao Leji emphasized that we must deeply understand the mission and tasks of the National People’s Congress in comprehensively promoting Chinese-style modernization, fully implement the spirit of the 20th National Party Congress and the Second and Third Plenary Sessions of the 20th Central Committee, improve the institutional system to ensure the full implementation of the Constitution, and give full play to the role of the National People’s Congress in the legislative process.
