Data centers and cloud storage providers face rising data growth. They need to increase storage capacity while managing costs, power use, and performance. Helium-sealed enterprise capacity HDDs are a key solution. These drives operate cooler, last longer, and provide higher reliability for 24/7 workloads. They help data centers maximize space efficiency, lower energy consumption, and meet growing storage needs.

Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH has introduced the Mx11 family of helium-sealed Enterprise Capacity HDDs. These drives provide high storage capacities and energy-efficient performance for cloud, data center, and enterprise applications. The Mx11 family includes the MG11 Series with up to 24TB using Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) and the MA11 Series with up to 28TB using Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR).

The Mx11 family is ideal for organizations aiming to expand storage capacity while cutting operational costs.

The Mx11 family meets the increasing storage demands in data centers. Both series feature high data density, power efficiency, and affordability. They use Toshiba’s Flux Control Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording (FC-MAMR) technology and come in a 3.5-inch form factor with a 10-disk helium-sealed design for continuous operation.

Key Features of Toshiba’s Mx11 HDDs:

  • Up to 28TB Capacity: The MA11 Series offers 28TB with SMR for better storage density. The MG11 Series provides 24TB with CMR for quick data access.
  • Advanced Performance: Both series have a 1GiB buffer, support a workload rating of 550TB/year, and feature a maximum sustained transfer speed of 295 MiB/s for the MG11 24TB model, which is 9% faster than its predecessor.
  • Reliability: With an MTTF of 2.5 million hours and a 0.35% AFR, the Mx11 HDDs are built for high uptime and consistent performance.
  • Interface Options: The MG11 Series supports 6Gbps SATA and 12Gbps SAS interfaces. The MA11 Series supports 6Gbps SATA.
  • Enhanced Security: The MG11 Series includes optional Sanitize Instant Erase (SIE) and Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) options for data protection.

Benefits for Data Centers and Cloud Providers

The Mx11 HDD family is suitable for organizations that want to increase storage capacity while reducing costs. The MG11 Series is ideal for cloud storage, data center use, backup, and video surveillance. Higher storage densities and improved power efficiency allow for cost-effective data growth.

The MA11 Series, using SMR technology, helps data centers optimize write operations, boosting overall capacity and improving total cost of ownership (TCO) for data-intensive applications.

“With 50 years of HDD innovation, the Mx11 Series increases capacity and TCO efficiency, helping customers minimize operational costs and expand their data center infrastructure,” said Larry Martinez-Palomo, Vice President at Toshiba.

Availability

  • MG11 Series (up to 24TB): Sample shipments will begin this month.
  • MA11 Series (up to 28TB): Sample shipments start in the fourth quarter of this year.
