Khagrachari and Sajek Tourist Centers Reopen After Extended Closure
The Khagrachari and Sajek tourist centers have resumed operations from November 5, following a prolonged closure. With the lifting of restrictions, tourists can now visit Sajek without any obstacles.
Prior to the reopening, the Rangamati district administration had advised against traveling to Sajek on multiple occasions since September 25, citing violence in Khagrachari and Rangamati on September 19 and 20. The administration had also cautioned against visiting all tourist centers in the three mountain areas, including Khagrachari, following the October 8 violence. This effectively halted tourist entry into Khagrachari and Sajek.
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shirin Akhter confirmed the reopening of the tourist center, stating that the administration has opened Megh Sajek province to tourists due to the normalization of the situation.
According to the Sajek Cottage Owners Association, many workers at the resort cottages had left Sajek due to the lack of tourists over the past month. However, with the reopening, they have begun to return with renewed enthusiasm.
Khagrachari District Commissioner Sahiduzzaman announced that all tourist centers in Khagrachari district have been reopened from November 5. As Sajek is accessible via Khagrachari district road, tourists can now travel to Sajek as well.
