Academician Zhong Nanshan, a⁣ renowned⁢ expert from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, recently delivered a lecture on the dynamics and response⁣ of the new crown (Omicron) ​epidemic at⁢ the National ‌University Anti-epidemic⁤ Lecture Hall.

No Obvious Difference⁤ Between Northern and Southern Strains

According to Zhong⁣ Nanshan,⁤ the​ prevalent strain in Guangzhou ⁤is BA.5.2, while the prevalent⁣ strain ​in the ⁤north, BF.7, is a mutant‌ strain based on⁤ BA.5.2. He emphasized that there is no obvious difference between the two strains.

Characteristics of Omicron Infection

Zhong Nanshan pointed out that the ‍incubation​ period of Omicron is shorter, and patients become ‍contagious the next day after ​infection. Most ‍people do not have obvious symptoms after​ infection, which are often mild and⁢ include dry throat, sore throat, dry cough, headache, and fever.

Importance of Prevention and Vaccination

Zhong Nanshan stressed that prevention of infection is still crucial, especially in a country with a large population base ​like China. He advocated for accelerating vaccination,‌ particularly the enhanced vaccination of heterologous vaccines, and emphasized the importance⁤ of personal protection measures such as wearing masks, washing hands frequently, and ventilating frequently.

Personal ⁣Protection Suggestions

Zhong ‌Nanshan proposed 8 personal protection suggestions‌ to strengthen⁣ protection, ⁤including:

  • Wearing masks
  • Keeping distance
  • Reducing public gatherings
  • Frequent antigen testing at home
  • Seeking medical attention⁣ if experiencing ⁤persistent ⁢fever
  • Vaccination for elderly people with chronic diseases
  • Avoiding stockpiling medicines
  • Strict ‌testing of “old medicines for new⁢ uses”
