How does the Ultra-Wideband technology enhance the security of the Digital Key feature in Samsung Wallet?
Interview with Woncheol Chai, Samsung Executive on the New Samsung Wallet Digital Key Feature for Audi Owners
Interviewer: Thank you for joining us, Woncheol. Can you explain what the Digital Key feature in Samsung Wallet entails for Audi owners?
Woncheol Chai: Absolutely. The Digital Key feature enables Audi owners to control their vehicles directly from their Galaxy smartphones. Users can lock, unlock, and even start their cars without the need for a physical key. This is especially convenient as it streamlines the whole process of accessing your vehicle.
Interviewer: How does this technology work, and what advantages does it offer over traditional keys?
Woncheol Chai: We’ve integrated advanced Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology into Samsung Wallet, which enhances precision and security. With UWB, the communication between the smartphone and the car is not only very accurate but also significantly more secure than traditional Bluetooth or NFC technologies. Moreover, users can remotely control features like opening the trunk and sharing access with other users.
Interviewer: That sounds impressive. What happens if a user loses their smartphone?
Woncheol Chai: Great question. If a smartphone with the Digital Key gets lost, users can utilize the Samsung Find service. This allows them to either lock the key remotely or completely delete access from that device, ensuring that their vehicle remains secure regardless of the situation.
Interviewer: When can Audi owners expect this feature to become available globally?
Woncheol Chai: The rollout is starting this month in Europe, and we plan to expand it worldwide shortly thereafter. We’re excited to offer Audi owners this innovative capability, enhancing their driving experience.
Interviewer: Beyond the Digital Key, Samsung Wallet is also evolving in other areas, can you tell us more about that?
Woncheol Chai: Certainly! We’re also enabling mobile ID capabilities in partnership with IDEMIA, specifically in states like Iowa and Arizona. This feature allows users to store their identification information securely for identity verification at places like airports and businesses. Furthermore, our Wallet Express initiative with Mastercard in the UK aims to improve digital wallet functionalities for banks and card issuers, presenting a seamless experience across various transactions.
Interviewer: It seems like Samsung is committed to enhancing technology integration within our daily lives. What does this mean for the future of digital wallets and vehicle access?
Woncheol Chai: This collaboration with Audi is just the beginning. We envision a future where seamless technology experiences are the norm. The Digital Key will not only make access to vehicles hassle-free and secure but also pave the way for more expansive integrations within the Galaxy ecosystem. We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what mobile technology can achieve for our users.
Interviewer: Thank you, Woncheol, for sharing this exciting development with us. We look forward to what’s next for Samsung Wallet and its users.
Woncheol Chai: Thank you for having me! We’re excited for the future and what we can offer to our community.
