SOOP Expands the Base of Domestic Amateur and Youth Sports
SOOP is expanding the base of grassroots sports, including youth and amateur sports, by broadcasting a variety of games and stimulating interest in fostering the amateur and youth sports ecosystem through scholarship support programs.
Amateur and Youth Sports Content on AfreecaTV
AfreecaTV had about 80% of the market share of youth sports content broadcast domestically last year. As of August this year, 33,000 broadcasts were conducted in the AfreecaTV amateur/youth sports category, with 2.8 million people watching amateur/youth sports games.
Fostering the Grassroots Sports Ecosystem
SOOP is working to foster the grassroots sports ecosystem for youth and amateurs by planning and producing the broadcast of the ‘1st President’s Cup National Youth Baseball Tournament’ and providing scholarships and supplies to excellent broadcasting clubs on AfreecaTV.
Convenient Features for Users
AfreecaTV provides services that sportspeople want, such as camcorder broadcasting, replay VOD, and downloads, in addition to a scoreboard function based on the user interface (UI) that suits the characteristics of each sport.
Richer Ecosystem for Amateur and Youth Players
The ecosystem has become richer as parent streamers who broadcast their children’s games have increased significantly. Amateur/youth players have also been able to show their games to their parents, friends, and acquaintances, which has increased their sense of accomplishment.
Partnerships with Sports Federations and Organizations
SOOP is expanding its partnerships with various sports federations and organizations to attract interest in less popular sports. As of the first half of this year, there are a total of 20 sports federations and organizations that SOOP has partnerships with.
Live Broadcasting of Various Events
Various events were broadcast live, such as the ‘University Bodybuilding Competition’ and the ‘Korea Rugby Association President’s Cup National Rugby Competition’. The ‘2024 Fall National Disabled Weightlifting Competition’ was also broadcast live in August.
Future Plans
SOOP plans to continue to support projects and develop technologies to revitalize the sports ecosystem of various sports, including amateur and youth sports.
