MOVER (Movement for Race Equity) and the Black Money Movement are launching, in partnership, the project Afreektech, a platform with the aim of training the black population in areas of technology, such as: Digital Careers, Digital Marketing with AI, among others. The objective is to train and certify 20,000 people through online courses and a flipped classroom methodology. Registration is free and guarantees a scholarship to start immediately.
The courses available cover different tracks, with an average workload of between eight and ten hours, which includes video classes, quizzes, support material, and projects. There are set deadlines for completing tasks within the platform. all participants who receive certification will be included in the MOVER talent pool, becoming eligible not only to apply for vacancies in member companies but also to win scholarships in several positive programs, such as the Mover Hello English programme, with Education First (EF).
“We are talking about personal and dynamic training. Students do not need to worry about finding times to attend classes or course costs as they are 100% free. Therefore, we chose the online method, where there is more accessibility for everyone to plan when, how, and where to study”, says Fernando Soares, project manager at MOVER. The initiative is part of the Mudiad’s employability pillar, which aims to create 3 million opportunities for the black population by 2030.
Afreektech’s platform is positive and aimed at the black population. Registration is ongoing, but places are limited. Access is available for one year, when new types of courses are launched, such as data sciences, B2B sales, and digital transformation. If you want to participate in this and other routes that will be launched, the interested person can access them for free on the website.
“It is very important for us to provide opportunities like these”, says Nina Silva, founder of the Black Money Movement. “MOVER and MBM take the issue of racism in Brazil seriously and work to transform society, making it more fair and just. Both organizations are dedicated to promoting the socio-economic inclusion of the black population, fighting inequalities, and empowering people to make a positive impact in their communities,” the details stated.
Nina says that according to the Smithsonian Education Center, 78% of high school graduates lack the skills needed for higher education courses in math, science, reading comprehension, and English. Lack of preparation for STEM often discourages students from choosing these careers, or causes them to abandon them early. “Much has been said about the low percentage of women in these areas, but, in reality, all minorities are underrepresented, which also means that it is difficult for these people to access the market this job and its benefits”, he adds.
The aim of the Afreektech platform, which is in its seventh year of existence, is to accelerate the journey of Afro-entrepreneurs and black professionals, offering everyone the opportunity to join different careers in the new economy.
