Windows + Co-Pilot bundle? Fair competition concerns
User acceptance of “Co-Pilot Key” is still uncertain
Possibility of sanctions if the dominant market position becomes visible
I recently had the opportunity to try out the “Galaxy Book 4 Edge” laptop, which features a “Co-Pilot Key” that allows users to access Microsoft’s AI chatbot, Co-Pilot, with the press of a button.
Member States require mandatory installation of the “co-pilot key”
Samsung is not the only manufacturer to feature the Co-Pilot Key on their laptops. Lenovo and HP have also added the key to their AI-powered laptops. This is reportedly due to Microsoft’s requirement for the installation of a Co-Pilot key as a base specification for AI PCs.

Windows + Co-Pilot Bundle? Fair Competition Concerns
Some experts have raised concerns that Microsoft’s requirement for the Co-Pilot Key on AI laptops could be seen as a repeat of their strategy in the 1990s, when they bundled Internet Explorer with Windows. This could potentially limit users’ options when it comes to using AI as a business tool.
User Acceptance of ”Co-Pilot Key” is Still Uncertain
While some users may find the Co-Pilot Key convenient, others may not see the need for a physical key to access AI services. The impact of the Co-Pilot Key on user behavior and AI adoption remains to be seen.
Possibility of Sanctions if the Dominant Market Position Becomes Visible
If AI laptops become increasingly popular, there is a possibility that the Co-Pilot Key could become the default startup key for all PCs running the Windows operating system. This could potentially lead to sanctions if Microsoft’s dominant market position becomes visible.
