Unlocking Trade: Cauca Business Council Calls for Overhaul of ‘Blocking’ Mechanism to Boost Shipping Efficiency
Cauca Paralyzed by Blockade: Transporters Protest Diesel Price Increase
Once again, Cauca was paralyzed, and this time, with the blockade of urban roads in Popayán, by transporters protesting the increase in the price of diesel.
Since Monday, September 2, in the early hours of the afternoon, cargo vehicle carriers began to block the Panamericana, near the Popayán Industrial Park, in protest against the increase in the price of a gallon of ACPM, from $1,904 to the public.
But, the regional transporters, who joined the national strike and, paradoxically, suffered from the many obstacles on the Panamericana highway carried out by indigenous communities, decided to expand the protest to urban roads, to the residential sectors of Popayán, with serious damage for the whole population. There were even attacks to stop vehicles from going.
In view of this situation, the Cauca Trade and Business Council, which represents the regional productive sector, called on transporters “to reconsider the blockade mechanism to achieve their objectives, in view of a matter of national and sectoral interest due to the effects on other sectors are irreparable.”
This union, which promotes socio-economic development, which promotes decent employment and supports the constitutional order, says, “the roads actually cause great difficulty for citizens and different actors.”
In the same way, he urgently calls on the national government to identify and act sensibly and quickly the mechanisms to reach an agreement that favors the country.
“We express our solidarity with the gastronomic sector of the Cauca department and with the families affected by the blockades,” the Cauca Trade and Business Council finally said, in a statement published on September 4.
On the other hand, it was learned that the municipal government has suspended the top and the plate in Popayán until further notice.
