Laos to Assume ASEAN Chair 2024: A New Era of Cooperation and Cultural Exchange
Ambassador Khamphao Ernthavanh expressed his confidence in Laos’ ability to successfully assume the role of ASEAN Chair 2024, thanks to the strong support and cooperation of member states and external partners.
On this occasion, the Ambassador congratulated Vietnam on its remarkable progress in overcoming challenges, restoring the material and spiritual life of its people, and achieving smooth economic development.
“Vietnam’s foreign policy, imbued with the ‘bamboo’ identity, has enabled the country to actively expand and strengthen diplomatic relations on bilateral and multilateral levels,” said Ambassador Khamphao Ernthavanh. “Vietnam’s achievements have significantly enhanced its role in the region and the world, contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity.”
ASEAN Cultural Friendship Festival: A Celebration of Diversity and Unity
The “ASEAN Colors” Cultural Friendship Festival, held from August 29 to September 1 at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, showcased the rich cultural heritage of ASEAN member states through various art performances, photo exhibitions, and experiential activities.
International delegates and locals alike enjoyed special performances, including the ”Coconut Shell” dance by the Cambodian Embassy, a mandolin performance of the song “Myanmar Land and Myanmar Mind” by the Myanmar Embassy, and the “Chandsu-da” dance by Lao students.
The festival also featured traditional costume performances by ASEAN countries, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.
Festival Highlights: A Showcase of ASEAN’s Cultural Diversity
The ASEAN Cultural Friendship Festival offered a wide range of activities, including:
- A photo exhibition showcasing the cultural heritage of ASEAN member states
- A performance of Vietnamese traditional costumes through feudal periods
- A showcase of Ao Dai and modern fashion
- An experiential space program featuring creative booths from Vietnam and ASEAN countries
The festival also included an “ASEAN Colors” experience space with 57 creative booths, offering activities such as children’s drawing, coloring, building legos, making figurines, papier-mâché masks, bamboo dragonflies, and kite-making.
Additionally, the festival featured 70 “Street Flavor” booths simulating old streets, complete with cyclos, jingling trains, flower-carrying bicycles, and food booths. The “Village Flavor” booths showcased cultural diplomacy, economic exchange, and regional agricultural products.
Promoting ASEAN’s Cultural Identity and Fostering Friendship
Through cultural and artistic exchanges, photo exhibitions, and other activities, the festival aimed to promote the image, country, people, and cultural identity of ASEAN member countries to the Vietnamese people and international friends.
The event also sought to inspire the development of Hanoi as a “Cultural - Civilized – Modern” city, while expressing and spreading the friendship, love of peace, and pride of the people of the capital.
The festival provided an opportunity for ASEAN countries and businesses to introduce handicrafts and traditional products, exchange ideas, learn from each other, and cooperate for mutual development.
