Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang Faces Withdrawal Crisis Amid Financial Concerns

Reported by Real Time Center/Chen Siu and Li Mian

Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang is facing a withdrawal crisis today, with his tenure marked by financial struggles. In response to his claims that Keelung City’s finances were the lowest in 20 years, former Keelung Mayor and Democratic Progressive Party Secretary Lin Yuchang stated, “Of course he pays the best, and replaces the most buses during his term, the Kuomintang has been in power for almost 60 years. Over is to resolve and clean up the mess left by the Kuomintang in the past.”

Lin Yuchang attended a Friends of Trust Taiwan event in Keelung City, where he addressed Ji Guoliang’s comments about his tenure. “Of course Lin Yuchang said, because he left Ji Guoliang a very good financial legacy during his tenure, but Ji Guoliang should not forget that before he took over as mayor, the Kuomintang owed him 12.436 billion.” The highest loan balance and debt ratio in history is 47.36%.

“Mayor Ji, don’t forget it. It was during my tenure that I reduced the accumulated debt of the Kuomintang to less than half over the past few decades,” Lin Yuchang noted. He also highlighted the DPP government’s achievements under the central government, including the world’s best economic growth, tax revenue growth, and surpluses from the central government. Lin Yuchang stated that the central government has allocated more funds to Keelung in recent years, with 2.6 or 2.7 billion more in special and general overall allocations.

Lin Yuchang also addressed the issue of bus failures in Keelung, stating that the failure rate was not high during his tenure. He attributed the current problems to the age of the buses, many of which are over 65 years old. Lin Yuchang emphasized the importance of budgeting during times of financial difficulties and highlighted his efforts to replace buses during his term.

Lin Yuchang concluded by emphasizing the need for Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang to acknowledge the financial struggles faced by the city and the efforts made by the DPP government to address these issues.
