The rise of popular science short videos has made complex scientific knowledge more approachable and accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. On September 4, Hengyang City launched the 2024 National Science Popularization Day main series of activities, featuring the “Ten Million IPs Create Popular Science” short video competition.
Hosted by the Municipal Science and Technology Association and organized by Hengyang Daily, the competition aims to promote the scientific spirit, popularize scientific knowledge, and improve the scientific and cultural literacy of the community. It also supports the convening of the 3rd Hunan Tourism Development Conference in Hengyang.
To participate, submit original science works that showcase prominent themes and creativity. Choose from five topics: interpreting cutting-edge technology, responding to social hot spots, promoting the scientific spirit, explaining the mysteries of life, and clarifying scientific rumors. Ensure the creation time is within one year, and the video meets the following requirements:
- Complete opening and ending
- Clear sound and picture
- Publish on platforms like Science Popularization China, Study Power, Weibo, Douyin, Kuaishou, Zhihu, and Tencent News
- Add the topic tag “#千万IP创科普#”
- Duration: 1-3 minutes (maximum 5 minutes)
- Uniformly in MP4 format
Submit your science popularization short videos in electronic form to the competition’s special mailbox: hykepu@163.com. The competition runs until mid-December, with the collection of works ending on October 31.
The organizing committee will conduct a preliminary screening, selecting 60 shortlisted works for public online voting on the Hengyang Daily official account. The selected works will be broadcast on the Science Popularization Hengyang official account, and a review committee of experts will review the entries to select the winners:

- 3 second prizes
- 6 third prizes
- 20 excellent prizes
- 30 commemorative prizes
