Dali in the Era of Light and Shadow: “Snow Leopard” and “Golden Belt” Shine
“See the world through images and see Dali through collections.” The 2024 “Colorful China” Dali National Film Week screening activities continue to be hot, and 10 excellent films have been released to the public one after another.
On September 7, two films, “Snow Leopard” and “Golden Belt”, were screened, telling moving and thought-provoking stories of people’s struggle against life and adversity.
Snow Leopard——Who Broke into Whose World?
Movie Synopsis:
The film ”Snow Leopard” is a story about how humans and animals get along. The film tells the story of a snow leopard that broke into a herdsman’s sheepfold and killed nine castrated sheep. Therefore, the herdsman’s eldest son insisted on punishing the snow leopard, while the father and the youngest son believed that the snow leopard should be released.
Through this event, the film shows the relationship between man and nature, as well as the conflict and integration between man and animals, tradition and modernity in the process of modernization.
The film took three years to create. Director Wangma Caidan used his unique visual narrative style to present the local natural scenery and life style, and also explored the collision and changes of local folk culture in modern civilization. “Snow Leopard” not only shocked the audience visually, but also guided the audience to think deeply emotionally and ideologically.

Movie Synopsis:
The movie “Golden Belt” is adapted from the true story of China’s first world professional boxing champion Xiong Chaozhong. It tells the story of the miner Xiao Xiong’s counterattack from a sparring partner to a boxing champion.
In the film, the emotional entanglement between Xiao Xiong and Yao Mo and Yao Feng is complex and profound, with both the deep friendship between master and apprentice and the fierce competition between brothers. As the plot deepens, a “scam” designed specifically for the boxing champion gradually surfaces.

In order to create the core of the film “real people, real events, real fighting”, a few months before the official shooting, we found an acting teacher to conduct acting training for two boxers selected from the boxing and mixed martial arts clubs (Banma Duoji who played Xiao Xiong and Zhang Meixuan who played Yao Mo). The characters in the movie are very close to their real life and sports career, making the characters in the film more vivid and real, and the fighting scenes more immersive.
