Update on Nipah Virus Situation in Kozhikode: No New Cases, Health Conditions Improving

Kozhikode Reports No New Nipah Virus Cases; Patients in Satisfactory Condition

Kozhikode: Minister Veena George confirmed today that there have been no new positive cases of the Nipah virus reported. She also stated that the health condition of the patients undergoing treatment is satisfactory. Currently, there are 36 pending test results and 11 individuals in isolation. Notably, there has been a significant improvement in the health status of a nine-year-old child, who has been removed from the ventilator following an improvement in their condition. Minister George further informed that the quarantine period for the individuals who had come in contact with the initial positive case has been completed. Currently, four individuals, including a healthcare worker, have been diagnosed with the Nipah virus and are undergoing treatment.

Continued Restrictions in Kozhikode Corporation and Farook Municipal Wards due to Nipah Virus Outbreak

Meanwhile, the Kozhikode Corporation and Farook municipal wards, which were declared as restricted zones following the confirmation of Nipah cases in Cheruvannur, will continue to face restrictions. This decision was made during a review meeting held at the Collectorate conference hall, chaired by PA Minister Muhammad Riaz. Future concessions will be determined based on the recommendations of an expert committee. The Minister specifically commended the cooperation between the Corporation, Municipal Corporation, and the Department of Health in their efforts to prevent the spread of Nipah virus.

Positive Progress in Nipah Prevention Activities

The meeting acknowledged the effective implementation of home visits as part of Nipah prevention activities in Kozhikode Corporation and Farook Municipality. The Minister commended the dedication of health workers and people’s representatives who have been effectively interacting with the residents during their home visits. As of now, home visits have been successfully completed in 4664 houses in three wards within the containment zone in Cheruvannur, 6606 houses in three wards in Beypur, all houses in Nallalam, and 9796 houses in Farook City.

The meeting, attended by Mayor of the Corporation Dr. Bina Philip, Chairman NC Abdul Razak, District Collector A. Farooq Municipality online. Geeta, ADM Muhammad Rafiq, Joint Director of the Local Self-Government Department Shino PS, and other department officials, concluded on a positive note.
