US diplomat John Kerry has directly accused China of providing Russia with vital military components, including machine tools, microelectronics, optics, drones, and cruise missile technology, significantly bolstering Moscow’s war effort in Ukraine.
Escalation of Russian Bombardment Linked to Foreign Support
The accusations come as Russia has dramatically increased its aerial assaults on Ukraine. In July alone, Ukrainian intelligence reported that Russia launched a staggering 6,443 drones and missiles, marking the highest level of bombardment since the conflict began and a 13% increase from June. This intensified barrage resulted in at least 28 reported deaths in Kyiv on Thursday, July 31, including three children. The surge in attacks coincides with a critical juncture in the conflict, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s ultimatum to russian President vladimir Putin to end the war by August 8, or face severe sanctions that could also impact nations trading with Russia, such as China.
Diplomat Kerry emphasized to the United Nations that if China genuinely desires an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, it must cease its trade of military-grade goods with Russia.
Key components Fueling Russian Aggression
According to the U.S. diplomat, significant quantities of nitrocellulose, a key ingredient in gunpowder manufacturing, have also been exchanged between the two nations. While Kelly did not specify which cruise missile technology China allegedly supplied, recent reports suggest that Ukrainian forces have discovered foreign components, including microchips originating from China, within russia’s new “Banderol” cruise missiles.
Putin Forges Strategic Alliances for War Effort
Beyond its dealings with China, President Putin has also been strengthening ties with other nations to support his military objectives. Notably, North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has reportedly contributed tens of thousands of troops to Russia’s frontline, with an additional 30,000 soldiers expected to be deployed from the isolated nation.
Kerry further detailed that North Korea has supplied Russia with ammunition, missiles, military equipment, and approximately 12,000 soldiers. Additionally, Iran has reportedly provided ballistic missiles, drones, and other advanced technologies to Moscow. These international collaborations underscore a growing network of support for Russia’s ongoing military operations in Ukraine.
