US Army Deploys Soldiers to Minnesota – Standby Status
The Pentagon has ordered approximately 1,500 active-duty soldiers to prepare for potential deployment to Minnesota, coinciding with a large-scale federal immigration enforcement operation, according to two defense officials.
The officials, speaking anonymously due to the sensitivity of the military plans, revealed that two infantry battalions from the Army’s 11th Airborne Division have received prepare-to-deploy orders. This unit, stationed in Alaska, specializes in operations within arctic environments.
One defense official stated that the troops are on standby to deploy to Minnesota should President Donald Trump invoke the insurrection act, a rarely utilized 19th-century law that would authorize the use of active-duty troops for law enforcement purposes.
This progress follows recent threats by President Trump to employ such measures to suppress protests stemming from his governance’s immigration policies.
In an emailed statement, Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell did not refute the issuance of the orders, affirming that the military “is always prepared to execute the orders of the Commander-in-Chief if called upon.”
ABC News initially reported this development.
