US Defense Secretary Promises Continued Support for Ukraine Amid Ammo Shortage

(AFP, Ramstein Air Base, Germany, 19th) Although the new round of the US Ukraine aid bill is still blocked in Congress, and the Kiev army is facing a shortage of ammunition, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin promised today that there will be no the United States let Ukraine lose.

The US$60 billion aid bill for Ukraine proposed by Democratic President Biden has been blocked by Republican members of Congress. The authorities warned that the US$300 million in military aid earmarked in recent days, bypassing Congress, would only last a few weeks.

Austin said at the opening of a conference of international supporters of Ukraine held at Ramstein Air Base in Germany that the United States “will not let Ukraine lose. We will continue to provide Ukraine with the resources it needs to resist aggression the Kremlin.”

On the 12th of this month, the White House bypassed congressional Republicans and announced $300 million in military aid to Ukraine. Austin noted that this military aid funding comes from the Department of Defense’s cost savings from recent procurement spending cuts.

“Only through unexpected cost savings in procurement contracts can we support this urgently needed military assistance program,” Austin said.

To date, the United States remains the largest donor of security assistance to Ukraine, and since February 2022, Washington’s military aid commitment to Kyiv has reached tens of billions of dollars.

According to Reuters, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today that Russian troops have occupied the village of Orlivka in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, a short distance from Avdiivka, which the Russian troops occupied last month about 9.5 kilometers.

The Ukrainian General Staff said earlier today that the Ukrainian army repulsed nine Russian criminals near Orlivka.
