Strait of Hormuz Shipping Lane Blockade

Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have centered largely on maritime security and mine deployment.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated the previous week that all mines had been detonated or removed from international waters in the strait, warning Tehran that any ship or vessel attempting to place new mines would be targeted and destroyed.

Human Toll of the Six-Month War

The ongoing conflict has resulted in the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping lane that previously handled the transit of roughly one-fifth of the world’s consumed oil barrels.

Across the broader six-month war, thousands of people have been killed and millions displaced by U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and Israeli military actions in Lebanon, alongside the deaths of 18 U.S. service members. Meanwhile, Washington has maintained pressure through threats of costly sanctions against any nations providing support to Iran.
