US Open Upset: When a Shocking Early Exit Became a Silver Lining
Carlos Alcaraz on Davis Cup Finals: “I Want to Use My Positive Experience to Improve Mentally”
The ATP official website of the Men’s Professional Tennis Association announced that the players competing in the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals, a team competition between countries, have shared their comments. Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) expressed his thoughts on the World Team Trophy, stating that it is necessary to erase the bitter memories of the US Open (USA/New York, hard, Grand Slam).
The 16 teams will compete in the group stage, divided into four groups of four each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage of the Final Eight, which begins on November 19th. This tournament will be held in four cities: Bologna (Italy), Valencia (Spain), Zhuhai (China), and Manchester (England). All matches will be played on indoor hard courts, with winners determined by two singles matches and one doubles match.
On the 11th, in the match between Spain and the Czech Republic held in Valencia, Alcaraz won both singles and doubles, contributing to Spain’s victory. Although he lost in the second round at the US Open, he said he wants to turn that experience into something positive.
“This was needed after not having positive results in my last few matches. It was a hard day but I’m happy to have the opportunity to play singles and doubles. I want to use my positive experience in the USA to avoid making the same mistakes and to improve mentally and become more mature. I was very motivated to come here and I’m looking forward to helping the team progress as far as possible.”
Spain will face France in their second group stage match on the 13th.
