Los Angeles — A decomposed body found in a parked car in Los Angeles nearly six months ago has led to murder charges against American rapper D4vd, prosecutors announced this week.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the charge on April 18, 2026, alleging that D4vd, whose legal name is David Burke, was responsible for the death of an unidentified male whose remains were discovered inside a vehicle abandoned in the Boyle Heights neighborhood on October 12, 2025.
Authorities said the victim had suffered multiple traumatic injuries consistent with assault before death, and his body had been dismembered and placed in garbage bags within the car’s trunk. Forensic analysis confirmed the remains had been in the vehicle for several weeks prior to discovery, though the exact timeline of the killing remains under investigation.
D4vd, 23, rose to prominence in 2022 with the viral hit “Romantic Homicide” and has since released two studio albums, blending emo rap and alternative R&B. He has no prior criminal record. The rapper was taken into custody on April 16, 2026, during a routine traffic stop in San Bernardino County and transferred to Los Angeles County jail, where he is being held without bail pending arraignment.
Prosecutors have not disclosed a potential motive, citing the ongoing nature of the case. However, investigators confirmed they are examining digital evidence, including social media activity and phone records, as part of their inquiry. The defense has not entered a plea, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 10, 2026.
The case has drawn attention due to the contrast between D4vd’s public image as a rising music artist and the gravity of the allegations. Fans and industry observers have expressed shock on social media, though many have urged caution until more facts emerge in court.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Homicide Special Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the victim’s identity and death. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as the investigation progresses.
