US Stock Indexes Close Slightly Higher, Tesla Surges 15% in Biggest One-Day Gain Since March 2020

The three major US stock indexes closed slightly higher, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.38%, the Nasdaq Composite Index rising 0.35%, and the S&P 500 Index rising 0.32%. Tesla rose more than 15%, its biggest one-day gain since March 2020. Apple rose more than 2%, Nvidia and Amazon rose slightly; Google fell more than 3%, Meta fell more than 2%, Intel and Microsoft fell more than 1%, and Netflix fell slightly. Heartland Financial (HTLF) rose more than 15% after UMB Financial agreed to acquire rival Heartland Financial for about $2 billion. The pharmaceutical company dropped clinical stage Annovis Bio Inc. (ANVS) by nearly 60% after disappointing results from its Phase 2/3 clinical trial of treatment for patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease (AD)—meeting a major endpoint, but failing to meet the other primary endpoint.
