UTA Men’s Tennis Faces Tough Road Trip Against Ranked Opponents
NORMAN, Okla. – UT Arlington men’s tennis team is set for a challenging weekend road trip, facing both No. 10 Oklahoma and New Mexico in Norman, Oklahoma. The Mavericks will take on the Sooners Saturday at 4 p.m. Followed by a Sunday matchup against the Lobos at 10 a.m. Both matches will be played at the Headington Family Tennis Center and Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion.
UTA enters the weekend with a 0-3 record, having recently competed at the ITA Kickoff Weekend tournament. There, they fell to No. 5 TCU 4-0 and Boise State 4-1. Despite the losses, the Mavericks showed resilience, securing their first team point of the season against Boise State thanks to a singles victory from Novak Ivanovic on Court 1 against Idriss Haddouch.
Finbar McGarvey also demonstrated strong play against Boise State, winning a set 7-6 (11-9) against Stewart Aronson, though the match remained unfinished. Axel Delva and Yazid Lahjomri faced close contests in doubles play against both TCU and Boise State, narrowly falling in both matches.
The series history favors Oklahoma, who hold a 10-3 all-time lead over UTA. The Sooners have won the last nine matchups, marking five consecutive seasons the teams have faced each other. Sunday’s match against New Mexico will be the fourth meeting between the two programs, with the Lobos having won all three previous encounters, including a close 4-3 victory in Arlington in 2025.
