[스포츠조선 김영록 기자] The head coaches who are likely to renew foreign contracts are smiling. On the other hand, the team looking for a new foreigner was racking their brains.

On the 7th (Korea time), trials for foreign players in the women’s division of the V-League began in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This tryout will be held for three days until the 9th.

A total of 37 people from 15 countries took part. In addition, there are a total of 41 existing foreign players, including Hyundai Engineering & Construction MoMA, Heungkuk Life Insurance Willow, GS Caltex Silva, and Korea Expressway Corporation Bukirich.

Club officials watched closely starting from the medical check. In particular, coach Ko Hee-jin, who renewed his contract with Apogit Mega in the Asian Quarter, focused on the supply and demand of outside hitters. This was followed by a physical examination measuring body weight, running jump, and standing reach.

After warming up with stretching, the players began a full-scale practice match. A 6-on-6 evaluation match was held with a local setter. This was followed by a simulation game where coaches from each team actively participated. IBK Industrial Bank coach Yeo Oh-hyun and Cheong Kwan-jang coach Lee Kang-ju received applause for their great digs. Hyundai Engineering & Construction coach Young-ki Jang and Pepper Savings Bank head coach Lee Yong-hee hit the ball non-stop.

There is concern among officials that “the player base seems to be worse than last year.” Pepper Savings Bank director Jang So-yeon took a cautious stance, saying, “We will wait a little longer until tomorrow.” IBK Industrial Bank coach Kim Ho-cheol and Heungkuk Life Insurance coach Marcello Abondanza said, “Compared to last season, we don’t see any better players.” The absence of Desaret Madan (22, Cuba), who was selected for the national team, was also disappointing.

GS Caltex coach Lee Young-taek and Hyundai Engineering & Construction coach Kang Seong-hyung are likely to renew their contracts with Silva and MoMA, respectively. Road construction manager Kim Jong-min, who was looking for a new face, also responded, “If the condition is like today, I think we will have to renew Bukiric’s contract.”

The renewal of existing players’ contracts will be decided by 11 PM on the 8th, Korean time.

However, European strikers attracted high attention. The heights of Varvara Jabić (29, Croatia, 1m94cm) and Marta Matejko (25, Poland, 1m98cm) were well received.

Left-handed Apogit Merelin Nikolova (21, Bulgaria, 1m88cm), who received two first-place votes, attracted attention with her excellent offensive ability. Outfielders Anastasia Guerra (28, 1m86cm) and Victoria Danchak (24, Ukraine, 1m92cm), both former Italian national team players, also showed impressive skills.

After meeting with the coach and going through two more evaluation games, the players will decide whether to play in Korea through a draft. The draft will be held on the 9th at 3pm local time (8pm Korean time). Players are selected after a draw in reverse order of last season’s rankings.
