▶ Welfare Center, Health Checkup Event at Virginia Herndon Open Door Presbyterian Church on the 28th
Participants in last year’s Health Screening Day event in Virginia get their blood tested.
The Washington Korean Community Service Center (Director Jinah Kim) will be holding its 40th annual Health Checkup Day event this weekend.
The event, which will be held on Saturday, the 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Open Door Presbyterian Church (Senior Pastor Joseph Kim) in Herndon, Virginia, was organized in collaboration with various community partner organizations, including the Korean American Medical Association (KAMA), Open Door Presbyterian Church, Fairfax County Health Care Authority, non-profit organization HBI-DC, and Safeway Pharmacy.
This event is the welfare center’s annual large-scale health checkup event, and it was created to help Koreans who cannot receive smooth medical services due to language, finances, status, and transportation barriers. This is the 40th year. With the active support of the Korean Medical Association, free 1:1 consultation services are provided in Korean with specialists in various fields such as internal medicine, pain medicine, family medicine, rheumatology, podiatry, obstetrics and gynecology ultrasound, dentistry, oriental medicine, and physical therapy.
Also, for immunization services provided in partnership with Safeway Pharmacy, most people with health insurance (except Kaiser) are free. For those without health insurance, the flu shot is $38. All participants who complete the vaccination will receive a $20 gift card.
For blood tests, hepatitis B/C tests and cholesterol tests are free, but A1C diabetes, kidney and liver function, uric acid, anemia, potassium, sodium tests, thyroid tests, and vitamin D tests are charged at a low cost of $7 to $22 per item.
In addition, various community information and resource introduction booths related to health and social welfare will be set up. For vaccinations and blood tests, you must pre-register through the registration link. Anyone can visit the 1:1 consultation and health information booths for each medical subject without prior reservation.
Chairman Kim Jin-ah said, “We expect that this health checkup event will provide a service like Danbi to many participants in need of medical help, regardless of their status or health insurance status.”
A health screening day for Maryland residents is scheduled for Saturday, November 2nd at Fellowship Church in Germantown.
