Campaign Details & Timeline
The Ministry of Health will begin the vaccination campaign against respiratory viruses, prioritizing the most vulnerable groups, starting October 1st. This includes:
- Older people in residences
- People with disabilities in special centers
- Infants under 6 months
- Students in the second cycle of early childhood education (ages 3-6)

School vaccination
Schools have a protocol in place to begin flu vaccination for children on October 1st. Parents can choose to have their children immunized at school for convenience. (Source)
VRS Vaccination
The campaign against VRS in infants under 6 months will also start on October 1st. Immunization will occur in hospitals for newborns (born from October 1st) and in health centers for infants born between april 1st and October 1st. This program has been shown to avoid more than 80% of hospital admissions in infants over the past two years.
VRS infection is common, and in childhood, is a leading cause of bronchiolitis, which can lead to complications like pneumonia, otitis, and persistent wheezing.
First-Time adult VRS Immunization
For the first time, adults in the Valencian Community will be immunized against VRS this year.This includes:
- Individuals aged 60 and over living in residences
- Adults with compromised immune systems
- People 18 years or older who have undergone lung or hematopoietic precursor transplants
This expansion is due to the serious impact VRS can have on older adults, increasing the risk of hospitalization.
