JD Vance on Trump-Musk feud: “Bad for the Country”
Updated June 8,2025
As the public spat between Elon Musk and Donald Trump intensifies,Vice President JD Vance has weighed in,
expressing concern about the potential ramifications of the Trump-Musk feud. Vance, during a podcast
appearance, suggested the ongoing conflict could be detrimental to both the country and Musk himself.
Vance acknowledged Musk’s frustration with Washington politics, explaining, “I get the frustration there… The
process in D.C., if you’re a business leader, you probably get frustrated with that process.” This comes after
Musk publicly criticized Trump over a recent spending bill.
Despite past support from tech billionaires like Musk, Vance affirmed his loyalty to Trump. “President Trump has
done more than any person in my lifetime to earn the trust of the movement he leads,” Vance posted on X. “I’m
proud to stand beside him.”
vance voiced concern that Musk’s attacks on Trump, including calling for his impeachment and alluding to
connections with Jeffrey Epstein, might be irreparable. “I hope that eventually Elon kind of comes back into the
fold. Maybe that’s not possible now because he’s gone so nuclear,” Vance stated.
Echoing this sentiment, former trump advisor Steve Bannon, speaking on NPR’s Morning Edition, believes
the relationship between Musk and the MAGA movement is permanently damaged. Bannon said Musk “crossed the
Rubicon” with his remarks.
Trump, in an interview with NBC news, warned Musk of “very serious consequences” should he financially support
Democratic candidates in future elections. This warning comes amid scrutiny of Elon Musk’s political
spending and the reliance of Musk’s companies, such as SpaceX and Tesla, on federal contracts and
subsidies.
Musk was a critically important campaign donor for Trump in 2024 and has used X, formerly Twitter, to amplify conservative
viewpoints. The U.S. government also relies on SpaceX for various services.
addressing Musk’s claim regarding Trump’s alleged involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, Vance firmly stated,
“Absolutely not. Donald Trump didn’t do anything wrong with Jeffrey Epstein… that’s total B.S.”
Vance emphasized the potential negative consequences of the Trump-Musk feud, saying, “I think that if
[Musk] and the president are in some blood feud, most importantly it’s going to be bad for the country, but I
don’t think it’s going to be good for Elon either.”
what’s next
the evolving relationship between Trump and Musk will likely continue to be a focal point, especially given the
intertwined interests of politics, technology, and government contracts.
