“We are proud to have extended support to John Austin Primary in Clarendon, which received 10 computers as part of this initiative,” Richardson shared. “The unwavering support of our alumni, strategic partners, and community has been instrumental in turning this vision into a reality.”

Stephan Rampair, Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis New Kingston, encouraged the youth to embrace the power of AI, emphasizing its accessibility at their fingertips. Bridging the Digital Divide: Jamaican Students Find hope in Tech Initiative

Kingston, Jamaica – In a nation were internet access remains a luxury for many, a new initiative is sparking hope for Jamaican students eager to embrace the digital world. The “Connect jamaica” program, launched by a coalition of local educators and tech enthusiasts, aims to bridge the digital divide by providing underprivileged communities with access to computers, internet connectivity, and digital literacy training.

“We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive in the 21st century,” said program director, Anya Thompson. “Access to technology is no longer a privilege, it’s a necessity.Connect Jamaica is about leveling the playing field and empowering our youth with the tools they need to succeed.”

The program’s impact is already being felt in communities across the island. At the Trench Town Community Center, a group of students huddled around a newly installed computer lab, their faces illuminated by the glow of the screens.

“Before Connect Jamaica, I only had access to a computer at school,” shared 16-year-old Keisha Brown. “Now, I can come here after school and work on my assignments, research projects, and even learn new coding skills. It’s opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me.”

Connect Jamaica’s success hinges on a multi-pronged approach. The program not only provides hardware and internet access but also focuses on building digital literacy skills through interactive workshops and mentorship programs.

“It’s not just about giving them devices,” explained volunteer mentor,David Williams. “We want to empower them to use technology effectively and responsibly. We teach them everything from basic computer skills to online safety and digital citizenship.”

The initiative has garnered support from both local businesses and international organizations, with donations pouring in to fund the purchase of computers, internet infrastructure, and educational resources.

Connect Jamaica’s vision extends beyond simply providing access. The program aspires to cultivate a generation of tech-savvy Jamaicans who can contribute to the island’s growing digital economy.

“We believe that by investing in our youth, we are investing in the future of Jamaica,” said Thompson. “connect Jamaica is not just about bridging the digital divide, it’s about building a brighter future for all Jamaicans.”
