According to the Fundación Venezolana de Investigaciones Sismológicas (Funvisis), a series of three low-intensity seismic events struck multiple regions of Venezuela during the early morning and morning hours of Monday, August 31, 2026. The tremors affected the states of Falcón, Zulia, and Portuguesa, with magnitudes ranging between 2.7 and 2.9 Mw.
Morning Seismic Activity Across Falcón and Zulia
The first recorded movement occurred at 00:06 hours on August 31, 2026, registering a magnitude of 2.9 Mw at a depth of 32.8 kilometers, according to Funvisis data cited by 2001online.com. That initial epicentro located in Falcón state, positioned 44 kilometers west of Punto Fijo and 67 kilometers north of Capatarida. Hours later, at 02:40 hours, a second tremor was detected in Zulia state with a magnitude of 2.7 Mw and a shallow depth of 2.4 kilometers. Official reports placed this second epicenter 37 kilometers east of Bachaquero and 55 kilometers northeast of La Ceiba.
Third Tremor Recorded in Portuguesa State
Funvisis documented a third seismic event at 07:31 hours local time in western Venezuela, measuring 2.7 Mw at a depth of 21.2 kilometers. According to reporting from 2001online.com, the epicenter sat 24 kilometers northeast of Acarigua in Portuguesa state and 48 kilometers southeast of Barquisimeto in Lara state.
