Escalating Tensions: US Navy Sinks Second Vessel Near Venezuela, Sparking Retaliation ‍Fears

September 15, 2025
By Robert Mitchell

Teh already fragile relationship between the United States and Venezuela reached a perilous new ⁢inflection point Monday, as President Donald ⁢Trump confirmed⁣ a second instance of the US⁢ Navy sinking a vessel in Caribbean waters. ⁣This latest incident, occurring September 15th, resulted in the deaths of three individuals the governance alleges ⁣were Venezuelan drug traffickers.

President ⁢Trump, speaking from‍ the White House, described the ⁤scene following the attack, stating, “All you have to do is look ⁤at the burden that was scattered throughout the ocean, large ‍cocaine ⁤bags everywhere.” He asserted that this ⁢aggressive tactic is effectively curbing the flow of narcotics and signaled a‍ willingness to employ similar measures on land and in⁤ the air.

This action follows a similar event on September ⁢2nd,‍ where US forces reportedly destroyed another boat, eliminating eleven crew members, according ⁣to statements made by the president on⁣ social media. Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the initial attack, arguing that ‍simply intercepting drug shipments⁢ is insufficient and linked the vessel to the notorious “Aragua ⁢Train” criminal organization.

The implications of these actions are far-reaching. Venezuelan President⁣ nicolás Maduro⁢ has vehemently condemned the US actions as a direct act of military aggression, asserting Venezuela’s right to self-defense under international law.”There is an ongoing⁢ military aggression,” Maduro stated during a press conference, “and we‍ fully exercise it. it is not a tension, it is an aggression on the entire line.”
