Japanese Lawmakers Seek Government Stance on U.S. Strikes in Venezuela
ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) lawmakers have formally requested the Japanese government to clarify its position regarding recent U.S. military actions in Venezuela. The request was made during an LDP meeting held earlier this month, according to reports.
Foreign ministry Response
During the meeting, a representative from Japan’s Foreign Ministry refrained from offering a legal evaluation of the U.S. strikes. Concerns have been raised internationally regarding the potential violation of international law by the U.S. military intervention. The official stated the ministry wished to ”refrain from making a hasty conclusion.”
China’s Actions and Japanese Concerns
the LDP meeting also addressed recent actions by China, specifically its export ban on dual-use goods to Japan and its ongoing growth of gas fields in the East China Sea. Kei Takagi, head of the LDP’s Foreign Affairs Division, characterized these actions as being “not allowed in international practice” following the meeting.
