Although Venice, Italy was the first city in the world to start charging entry fees from day visitors, it was found that 15,700 people paid 5 euros, or 7,000 won, for the city’s entrance fee.

The Mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro praised himself for taking a successful first step.

According to AFP on the 25th local time, on the first day of operation of this system, 113,000 tourists registered to visit through the official website and application of the city of Venice.

Of these, 15,700 people who visited Venice on a day trip without staying overnight paid 5 euros for entry to the city.

About 40,000 people were guests staying more than one night who did not need to pay an entry fee, and the rest were exempt, such as students, employees, and relatives or friends of residents.

The entrance fee policy was introduced to the Venetian city to solve the problem of urban congestion caused by the influx of 20 to 30 million tourists every year.

Starting today, Venice has decided to raise entry fees for day visitors, mainly on public holidays and weekends during peak season, until July.

If you are caught without paying the entry fee, you will have to pay a fine of up to 300 euros, or earn 440,000 in Korean currency.
