Veracruz: They rescue 172 abandoned migrants inside a truck on the Jáltipan-Cosoleacaque highway

Within the framework of the operations to deport foreigners transiting through Mexico and two days after the head of the National Institute of Migration (INM)apologized for the death of 40 migrants in Ciudad Juárez and said that “they must walk freely” through the country, located 172 migrants of different nationalities.

According to a statement from the INM “they were abandoned – yesterday Friday afternoon – in the back of a tractor-trailer on the Jáltipan-Cosoleacaque highway in the state of Veracruz“.

There are 105 people from Guatemala (the majority) and Honduras that make up 44 family units; 27 unaccompanied minors from Guatemala, Honduras and Ecuador, and 40 single adults from Guatemala, Bangladesh, Honduras and Ecuador.

At the time of being located and rescued, the foreigners reported that they had to detach several sheets from the roof of the truck bed in order to get air, since they were traveling overcrowded and began to have symptoms of suffocation.

Faced with such a situation and with the help of elements of Civil protection and state police, the Federal Agents of Migration They transferred the people in a context of mobility to the State Police headquarters to provide them with water, food and to be checked by medical personnel.

Unaccompanied minors and those who make up family groups will remain under the guardianship of the System for the Integral Development of the Family, and in the case of women and single adults, the corresponding administrative procedure will be initiated.
