Montpelier,VT – After enduring devastating floods last December and two consecutive summers of inundation,some Vermont communities are on high alert as the potential for more flooding looms.
Montpelier,one of the hardest-hit cities in recent years,is taking proactive steps to prepare. City officials announced Wednesday morning that they will closely monitor water levels and implement precautionary measures, including placing road-closed signs along flood-prone Lower State Street.
“We’re urging residents to take this threat seriously and prepare accordingly,” said a city spokesperson.”Even if the flooding isn’t as severe as in the past, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.”
Residents are advised to take steps to protect their property, such as elevating items stored in basements or low-lying areas.
Vermont emergency management officials recommend having a complete evacuation plan in place and packing a “go-bag” with essential items like a change of clothes, cell phone, medications, and important documents.
