Lidl-Trek Banking on Pedersen and Ciccone for Vuelta Success
Lidl-Trek is pinning its hopes on the strong current form of Mads Pedersen and Giulio Ciccone as they head to Spain for the Vuelta a España. The team is targeting stage wins, the mountains classification, and a remarkable achievement: a clean sweep of Grand Tour points jerseys this season.
Pedersen, fresh off a dominant performance at the Tour of denmark where he secured three stage wins and the overall title, will focus his energy on the flatter stages, particularly the opening stage from Turin to Madrid, where the first leader’s jersey will be awarded. He’s aiming to add to his impressive palmarès, having already claimed four stage wins and the points jersey at this year’s Giro d’Italia.
With Jonathan milan taking the points jersey at the Tour de France, Pedersen has the opportunity to secure a rare hat trick of Grand Tour points classifications for Lidl-Trek. “my goal is to win some stages, and then hopefully that puts me in a good position for the points jersey,” Pedersen stated.
Meanwhile, Giulio Ciccone will be the designated leader for the numerous uphill finishes throughout the race, leveraging his recent strong performances to challenge for the mountains jersey.
