Vietnam’s Pepper Exports See Significant Growth in September 2024

According to preliminary statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association, Vietnam’s pepper exports have shown a notable increase in the first 15 days of September 2024. The country exported 6,917 tons of pepper, with a total export turnover of 42.3 million USD.

Main Exporting Enterprises

The top exporting enterprises in the first 15 days of September include:

  • Olam Vietnam: 970 tons
  • Phuc Sinh: 743 tons
  • Haprosimex JSC: 568 tons
  • Tran Chau: 561 tons
  • Nedspice Vietnam: 480 tons

Import Statistics

On the other hand, Vietnam imported 706 tons of pepper, with a total import turnover of 3.7 million USD. The top importers were:

  • Olam Vietnam: 149 tons
  • Tran Chau: 109 tons
  • Phuc Thinh: 105 tons

Indonesia and Brazil were the two main pepper suppliers to Vietnam, accounting for 359 tons and 245 tons, respectively.

Market Trends

Experts predict that the signs of supply shortage compared to demand will continue to be recorded and reflected in the market until the crop season.

Domestic Market Prices

In the domestic market, pepper prices have decreased sharply by 4,000 – 5,000 VND/kg compared to September 19. The current prices in key regions are:

  • Dak Lak province: 150,500 VND/kg (down 4,500 VND/kg compared to yesterday)
  • Chu Se pepper (Gia Lai): 148,000 VND/kg (down 5,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday)
  • Binh Phuoc: 148,000 VND/kg (down 4,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday)
  • Ba Ria – Vung Tau: 148,000 VND/kg (down 4,000 VND/kg compared to September 19)

Global Pepper Prices

According to the International Pepper Association (IPC), the current world pepper prices are:

  • Indonesian Lampung black pepper: 7,589 USD/ton (down 0.04%)
  • Muntok white pepper: 9,154 USD/ton (down 0.04%)
  • Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper: 7,000 USD/ton
  • Malaysian ASTA black pepper: 8,800 USD/ton
  • Malaysian ASTA white pepper: 10,900 USD/ton
  • Vietnamese black pepper: 6,800 USD/ton (500 g/l), 7,100 USD/ton (550 g/l)
  • Vietnamese white pepper: 10,150 USD/ton
