PERTH, Australia (May 1, 2025) — Virginia Giuffre, a prominent figure among the accusers of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has died, her family announced Friday. She was 41.
Giuffre died in Western Australia, where she had resided for several years, according to a family statement released via email.
“Virginia was a fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse and sex trafficking. She was the light that raised so many survivors,” the statement read. ”Despite all the adversities she faced in her life, she shone with her own light. We will miss her a lot.”
Police Investigate Death
Western Australia State Police confirmed the death of a 41-year-old woman in a residence in the Dutgabby area, a rural locality near Perth. While police did not release the woman’s name,they stated that emergency responders were unsuccessful in their attempts to revive her and that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Giuffre’s Role in Epstein Case
Giuffre was among the first to publicly accuse Epstein, who faced sex trafficking charges in July 2019. Epstein died by suicide weeks later while in custody at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York.
Epstein’s Controversial Legacy
Epstein’s death ignited years of controversy. The U.S. Department of Justice alleged he sexually exploited more than 250 underage girls at properties in New York, Florida, and elsewhere.
Lawsuits filed by victims allege that Epstein facilitated the abuse of girls by his powerful associates.
Some have speculated that Epstein was murdered in jail to protect his wealthy and influential clients who allegedly abused girls.
FBI Scrutiny
In 2024, a group of victims filed a lawsuit accusing the FBI of covering up its failure to thoroughly investigate Epstein.
Trump Management’s Pledge
The Trump administration pledged to release all documents related to the accusations against Epstein,including lists of prominent individuals associated with him. The “first phase” of documents was released in February but contained no significant revelations.
Settlement with Prince Andrew
In 2022, Giuffre reached a settlement in a lawsuit in which she accused Prince Andrew of the United Kingdom of sexually abusing her when she was a teenager at Epstein’s New York mansion and on Little Saint James, Epstein’s private Caribbean island in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Maxwell Conviction
The accusations against Epstein have led to numerous legal cases, including the conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell, a British socialite, on sex trafficking charges in New York. Maxwell, Epstein’s former girlfriend, was accused of helping him sexually abuse teenage girls and is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence in Florida.
