Postponement of UAE President’s Visit to Korea Amidst Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

President Yoon Seok-yeol of Korea and President Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were set to meet in mid-October, but their meeting has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.

According to an official from the President’s Office who spoke with Yonhap News, the decision to postpone the visit was made mutually due to unexpected local circumstances. The United Arab Emirates informed Korea about the change in plans a day before the scheduled visit. The ongoing armed clash between Hamas, a Palestinian political faction, and the Israeli army, which erupted with a surprise attack by Hamas on the 7th, is believed to have influenced the decision.

President Yoon previously visited the UAE in January, where he held a summit with President Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan and secured a commitment of $30 billion (approximately 37 trillion won) in investments.

This visit was expected to involve in-depth discussions between the leaders to finalize the United Arab Emirates’ significant investment projects. However, the postponement has temporarily put a hold on these detailed talks.

It appears to follow the Israeli-Palestinian war.

An official from the President’s Office said in a phone call with Yonhap News that day, “Due to unexpected local circumstances, we decided to postpone the visit to Korea by mutual agreement.” It is said that the United Arab Emirates informed about the postponement of the visit to Korea the day before. The armed conflict between Hamas and the Israeli army, which began with a surprise attack by the armed Palestinian political faction Hamas on the 7th, appears to have had an effect.

President Yoon visited the UAE last January, had a summit with President Muhammadu, and received a pledge to invest $30 billion (about 37 trillion won).

It is expected that there would be detailed discussions between the leaders to confirm the large-scale investment projects of the United Arab Emirates through this visit.
