Vissel Kobe Beats Jeonbuk Motors in Asian Champions League

Vissel Kobe defeated South Korea’s Jeonbuk Motors 2-0 on Wednesday to maintain a perfect start in the eastern league phase of the Asian Champions League Elite, registering their second win in a row in the continental competition.

Yuya Osako and Yuya Kuwasaki Secure Victory for Vissel Kobe

Vissel Kobe dominated the opening exchanges against Jeonbuk Motors. The pressure paid off in the 12th minute when Yuya Osako peeled away from his marker to convert from a corner delivered by Katsuya Nagato, giving the home side a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Osako’s first in this season’s competition. Yuya Kuwasaki later sealed the result midway through the second half, sweeping home a 68th-minute shot past goalkeeper Song Bum-keun after a swift counterattack initiated by teammate Yoshinori Muto.

“I think it’s extremely important to earn three points at home,” said Osako. “I’m happy we were able to get off to a good start and begin our home campaign on a positive note.”

Jeonbuk Motors Increases Pressure After Halftime

Despite Kobe’s early dominance, Jeonbuk Motors mounted a significant offensive response after the interval. Brazilian winger Italo repeatedly cut open the home defense, creating multiple scoring opportunities for the visitors. Italo set up teammate Bruno Mota, whose effort struck the woodwork, before substitute Lee Seung-woo narrowly headed wide of the target. Jeonbuk’s Choi Woo-jin subsequently struck the crossbar with a long-range effort before Kobe punished the visitors on the counterattack to secure the match.

Standings and Kashiwa Reysol Thrashing Port FC

The victory moves Vissel Kobe level on six points with compatriots Kashima Antlers and Gamba Osaka, alongside China’s Beijing Guoan. Kashiwa Reysol secured their first win of the campaign by thrashing Thailand’s Port FC 5-1. The Japanese hosts established an unassailable five-goal lead within the opening half-hour through goals from Tojiro Kubo, Yuki Kakita, Riki Harakawa, Koya Yuriki, and Hinata Yamauchi.

The 16-team league phase features separate brackets for east and west Asia, with the top eight finishers in each region advancing to the last 16. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final are scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia in April and May.
