Vodafone Egypt Foundation Reaches £750 Million in Community Development Since 2003
The Vodafone Egypt Foundation for Community Development has successfully reached a total of £750 million in community development initiatives since its establishment in 2003. The foundation is now preparing to launch its strategy for the next five years, focusing on digital education, emergency and crisis support, and building a continuous volunteer society.
According to Shahdan Aram Al Borsa, Secretary General of the Vodafone Egypt Foundation for Community Development, the foundation aims to achieve a positive impact on Egyptian society by launching initiatives targeting the most needy groups and implementing development projects aimed at bridging the digital divide between rural and urban areas.
Digital Education and Emergency Support
The foundation’s strategy for the next five years will focus on several main axes, including digital education, supporting emergencies and crises, and building a connected volunteer community. The strategy aims to harness technology and enable citizens to become an integral part of change agents in their societies to improve their lives and create a more comprehensive and connected society.
In the digital education file, the educational platform launched by the foundation in 2019 will focus on developing the digital skills of young people, particularly by providing them with the necessary technological tools. The platform offers academic and educational materials and free educational materials to help young people bridge the digital divide and prepare them for the labor market.
Building a Connected Volunteer Community
Through the strategy of building a connected volunteer community, Vodafone Egypt Foundation not only seeks to consolidate the values of volunteerism and cooperation but also to foster a sense of social responsibility and engage individuals in community service. The foundation supports its initiatives through digital education and emergencies.
Volunteers contribute to the achievement of the goals of the educational institution, creating opportunities for volunteering and enhancing the effectiveness of the educational programs provided. Volunteers will also contribute to the management of emergency and crisis assistance, contributing to the success of emergency response projects and maximizing their benefit to affected communities.
Initiatives and Partnerships
The foundation has implemented many important initiatives in the area of social responsibility, especially the launch of the educational platform, which provides free educational and academic materials to its users. The foundation has also contributed to the development of Decent Life schools, providing computers and internet networks to 180 schools in different governorates.
The foundation has supported Instant Network Schools (INS), in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Ministry of Education, where 48 schools were supported with digital tools and educational content to ensure universal access to quality education and bridging the digital divide for teachers, refugees, and students.
Challenges and Recommendations
One of the most prominent challenges facing social responsibility and development in Egypt is the lack of periodically updated information on poverty levels, school needs, statistics, and questionnaires, which hinders impact measurement and accurate need-to-know.
The foundation recommends increasing investment in data collection and analysis, developing effective systems to measure impact, and improving communication and participation between communities and various institutions. Synergy between organizations, civil society organizations, and the public and private sectors is one of the most important factors to benefit society.
