‘Voice 4’ Lee Kyu-hyung “Multiple personality, it’s not easy, but it’s a fun challenge” [일문일답]

[스포츠서울 | 안은재기자]Actor Lee Kyu-hyung expressed his feelings about the end of ‘Voice 4’.

Lee Kyu-hyung left a life character once again through the multi-personality villain Dong Bang-min in tvN’s Friday-Saturday drama ‘Voice 4: Time of Judgment (Voice 4)’. He appeared as a good character and revealed the inner personality of Da-in, who was trying to kill, and showed his youthful East Asian people who created all these personalities as his true personality, and he performed a passionate performance that could not take his eyes off of him until the end. It was possible because it was Lee Kyu-hyung, and Lee Kyu-hyung, who left a new life character of ‘5 roles in one’ with a thousand face, was asked how he felt after finishing the drama.

Q. How do you feel about the ending?

I would like to thank the writer and director for creating and guiding the character of Dongbangmin, and I would like to thank the staff who worked hard together on set. I was worried about whether I would be able to handle this role, but it was also a work that made me greedy. Even though I was a villain, I was able to finish it with strength because there were viewers who watched with affection until the end. Thank you very much.

Q. For multi-personal characters, you stated that you had detailed differences for each personality such as voice, grammar, and facial muscles. How did you try to express the characteristics of each personality?

Based on the warrior given by the writer for each personality, the acting points were differentiated. ‘Good Easterner’ is a character born to survive the pain of childhood abuse, and prepared as a character with a good personality without any corners. ‘Circus Man’ is a character in his mid to late 40s who commits murder, and expresses his anger-filled tendencies with a low-pitched voice. The ‘master’ personality wore glasses externally, and was smart, sensitive, and curious. The voice was also held in a high tone, and during the murder process, it seemed to enjoy the victim’s reaction. The personality of the center director tried to express his obsession with Kang Kwon-ju (Lee Ha-na). The boy Dong Bang-min acted with an attitude of deifying himself as a person who was directly affected by the abuse of Dong Bang Heon-yeop (Jang Hang-seon) as a child.

Q. You played 5 roles, and if you had to pick the most difficult personality among your personalities, what would it be?

Physically, the circus man was difficult. Since he has a low-pitched voice and a lot of anger, there were many scenes where he had to scream while scratching his vocal cords. That part was a bit difficult.

Q. You worked as a villain and there were many action scenes, but I wonder if there were any episodes.

When Dong Bang Min first met Kang Kwon Joo, there was a scene where he attacked Kwon Joo. Action Dong-seon throws a jacket at Kwon-ju, obscuring his view, and then runs in, grabs the gun and strangles him. During rehearsal, the jacket thrown at Kwon-joo gets caught on a hanger, and it settles on the arm holding the gun. Because of that appearance, Lee Ha-na and actress both burst into laughter for a long time.

Q. What would be the most memorable scene during the filming of ‘Voice 4’?

The scene where Dong Bang-min attacks Kwak Man-taek (Lee Jeong-yeol) in the Red Room. It was the first time that the circus man personality did not simply commit murder, but revealed his feelings for and revenge against his past. After that scene, more details about the personality are captured and it is memorable.

Q. What kind of work do you think ‘Voice 4’ will remain for Lee Kyu-hyung?

It wasn’t easy, but it was a fun challenge!

Q. Future activity plans and final greetings

With the help and support of many people, I was able to finish the project well. I will soon start filming the Netflix movie ‘The Battle of Seoul’ and performing the musical ‘Hedwig’. We plan to see you live on stage for the time being, so we hope to see you at the concert hall. Thank you!
