The 7th Artisanal Textile Valorization Days (JVA) closed their doors on the night of March 11, 2023. They took place from March 7 to 11, 2023 at the Place de la Nation in Ouagadougou, under the theme: “Market of the textiles and clothing in the current context of security crisis: Issues, challenges and perspectives”.

After four days of activity, the 7th edition of the Artisanal Textile Valorization Days (JVA) is over. On the bill, there was the Handicraft Textile Fair, the Handicraft Textile Women’s Day, thematic panels, training workshops and the celebration of the Handicraft Textile Night and the March 8 Special Day.

The closing ceremony was marked by a fashion show evening. On the occasion, Georges Bayala alias Georges Dua, President of the Union of Textile, Clothing and Sewing Professionals (UPROTEX-HAC) took the floor. His organization is one of the promoters of the JVA project. Georges Dua said that in the context of insecurity in Burkina Faso, textile artisans offered to dress the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP).

“That is already a contribution to the fight against terrorism. It’s not just the guns. In the background, there are designers who want to work, who want to dress so that we reduce expenses in relation to outfits »he explained.

It was Marguerite Doannio, Director of the National Tourism Office of Burkina Faso (ONTB) who was the artistic godmother of these 7th JVA. In his opinion, efforts must be made so that Burkina Faso becomes the capital of African fashion. “If everyone spoke the same language, we could make Burkina Faso the capital of African fashion. Because we have the potential for that and we have the talent for that too. We just need to unite our energies”she explained.

Speaking of making Burkina Faso the capital of African fashion, Moumouni Kowe, Group Marketing and Communication Director of Coris Bank International said that if this were to happen, Coris Bank International will make its contribution. He was present at the closing ceremony, on behalf of the sponsor of the event, Idrissa Nassa, CEO of Coris Holding.
