Even government websites and other official sources remained without access to the latest information on Sunday afternoon.

Al Jazeera reports that New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has said there have been no official reports of injuries or deaths in Tonga. But authorities have been warned that they have not yet been in contact with some coastal areas and small islands.

“Communication with Tonga is very limited. I know it’s a big concern for the Tongan community here, ”Arden said.

They said there was significant damage to boats and shops off the coast of Tongan.

About 64 kilometers (40 miles) south of the volcano, the capital, Nuku’alofa, was covered in volcanic eruptions. Arden said the overcrowding had polluted the water supply and made fresh water a vital necessity.

Arden said New Zealand was unable to send a surveillance aircraft over Tonga on Sunday because the ash cloud was 19 kilometers (63,000 feet) high. But efforts will continue on Monday, followed by supply aircraft and naval vessels.
