Momentum Shifts Dramatically
However,Bertrange had other plans. Despite a sluggish start, they managed to fully reverse the momentum, ultimately winning a thrilling five-set match (2-3). This victory earned them the right to host the final, winner-take-all game. “It takes a lot of energy to fight such a battle,” said Steve Weber, Bertrange’s captain.”And I’m really proud that the team managed to reverse the situation.”
Weber added, “During the first two sets, we really didn’t defend well, and they succeeded in everything they undertook. But from the third set onward, we started to defend better, and this is very vital to us.” Strassen dominated the early stages, winning the first set in a swift 18 minutes (25-15), fueled by strong performances from Luxembourg international Matilde da Luz, Gajin, Brazilian Camargo, and Iranian Arab (25-21).
Strassen’s Perspective
“The analysis is quite simple,” noted Gilles Braas, the VC Strassen setter. “We played super well during the first two sets. We served well, and they had a lot of problems at the reception. We were strong in the block and in defense. And from the third set, we had problems at the reception, and they really served. Afterward, it was difficult to open the game because they have a great block, they are very large. And the momentum changed camps. We will have to improve at the reception and be very mentally prepared for match 3. We have a week to prepare.”
Bertrange’s Resurgence
Despite Strassen initially leading in the third set (8-5), Bertrange refused to falter. bolstered by increasingly effective defense and strong performances from Belgian Cornil, Canadian Cur, and Czech Kolacny, bertrange capitalized on opportunities to score crucial points, eventually taking the lead (13-15).Strassen’s captain, Milosevic, called for “calm,” and coach Massimo Tarantini attempted to disrupt Bertrange’s rhythm with a timeout.
However, the timeout proved ineffective. Lead by Cornil and Weber, Bertrange continued their surge, securing the third set (23-25). Carrying this momentum into the fourth set, Bertrange won decisively (16-25), leveling the match at two sets apiece.
