Jakarta’s 2026 Provincial Minimum Wage is Set at Rp 5,735,000

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has established the 2026 provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) at Rp 5,735,000 (approximately $368 USD ⁣as of january 9, 2026). This represents a 5.44% increase from the⁢ 2025 UMP of Rp 5,462,000.

The ‍decision,⁤ formalized through Governor Decree Number 1377 of 2025, aims to balance worker welfare with business sustainability. The UMP applies to workers⁤ with less than ⁢eight years of experience. Workers with more⁣ than eight years of experience are entitled to wages above the UMP, persistent through collective bargaining agreements or⁣ company policies.

The new wage will take effect on January 1, 2026, impacting⁤ approximately 4.5 million workers in ‍Jakarta, according⁣ to⁣ data from ⁣the Jakarta Provincial Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Office.

Factors Influencing the 2026 UMP‍ Increase

The 5.44% increase is based on a ⁢formula considering economic growth, inflation, and the average consumer price index (CPI). The Jakarta Provincial Government utilized a 2.5% economic growth projection ⁣and a ‍3.44% inflation rate, as reported by Statistics ⁣Indonesia‍ (BPS), in calculating the adjustment.

The formula is mandated by Law Number 13 of 2003 concerning Employment, which requires periodic review ‍and adjustment of minimum wages to ensure decent ⁤living standards for workers.

Specifically, the⁣ calculation ⁢is⁢ based on the following formula: UMP = UMPprevious year + (Economic Growth + Inflation) x ⁣UMPprevious year. In this case: Rp 5,462,000 + (2.5% + 3.44%) x Rp 5,462,000 = Rp 5,735,000.

Impact on Businesses and⁣ Workers

The increase in the UMP is expected to impact businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),⁣ requiring them to adjust their payroll budgets. The All-Indonesia Employers Association⁣ (Apindo) has expressed concerns about the potential‍ for increased labor costs and its effect on competitiveness. Apindo has called for government support ⁢for SMEs to mitigate the impact.

For workers, ⁤the higher UMP provides⁤ increased purchasing power and improved living standards. The Jakarta ⁢Provincial Government anticipates ⁤that the wage increase will stimulate domestic⁤ consumption and contribute to economic growth. A statement released by the Ministry of Manpower on ⁢December 28, 2025, emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights ‍and ensuring fair wages.

The⁢ Jakarta UMP is consistently among ⁤the highest provincial minimum wages in Indonesia, reflecting the higher cost of living in ⁣the capital city. In comparison, the national minimum wage in 2026 averages around Rp 4,177,673, according to the Ministry ‍of Manpower’s announcement ⁤ on November 21,2025.
