Walmart is significantly expanding its drone delivery service, bringing the option to five states. The retailer plans to launch drone delivery at 100 stores across Atlanta, Charlotte, houston, Orlando, and Tampa within the next year. This expansion makes drone delivery available in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas.
Customers can request drone delivery through the Wing app, Walmart’s partner for drone operations. The drones have a six-mile delivery radius from the stores. This initiative is part of Walmart’s broader strategy to compete with Amazon and other retailers by offering increased convenience and speed.
Greg Cathey, senior vice president of Walmart U.S. transformation and innovation, said customer feedback has driven the expansion. He noted that customers often use the drone service for urgent needs, such as hamburger buns, eggs, or over-the-counter medicine.
Walmart reports that drone deliveries take 30 minutes or less. Popular items include eggs, ice cream, pet food, and fresh fruit.
While Walmart offers over 150,000 items in its stores, Cathey estimates that drones can deliver more then 50% of them.

Walmart COO Kieran Shanahan emphasized that drone delivery is part of a larger ecosystem aimed at providing versatility and convenience.
