Warner Bros Discovery Q2 2026: Streaming Growth Offsets Studio and Ad Declines

Warner Bros. Discovery reported total quarterly revenue of about $8.7 billion for the second quarter of 2026, marking a sharp decline from the previous year according to company financial disclosures. The drop highlights a difficult operational balance as the media company’s streaming division expands while its traditional television and studio segments face steep declines.

Streaming Growth Drives Subscription Revenue

The streaming segment proved to be the company’s clearest growth engine during the quarter. According to financial figures reported by The Streamable, streaming revenue jumped 10% to reach $3.1 billion, while EBITDA surged 75% to $512 million.

Warner Bros. Discovery credited the gains to international expansion for HBO Max and discovery+, alongside the release of major titles such as Season 3 of “Euphoria” and Season 3 of “House of the Dragon.” Management pointed to these results as evidence that direct-to-consumer services can build durable, recurring subscription revenue to offset the ongoing contraction of traditional cable television.

Studio and Advertising Operations Face Steep Declines

In contrast to the streaming gains, the company’s studio division suffered a 39% drop in revenue compared to the same period a year earlier, when a stronger film slate created a difficult comparison. According to reporting from The Streamable, the theatrical downturn was driven largely by the box-office performance of “Supergirl,” which grossed only $126 million globally.

Traditional television advertising also weakened significantly, falling 22% during the quarter. Warner Bros. Discovery attributed the drop primarily to the absence of NBA playoff games on TNT, following the loss of the network’s broadcasting rights after 30 seasons in 2025.

Merger Uncertainty and Upcoming Legal Battles

The latest financial results arrive as Warner Bros. Discovery navigates a proposed combination with Paramount Skydance. According to verified reports, the intended acquisition remains stalled in legal limbo, awaiting a March trial in a lawsuit brought by 12 states and the Writers Guild of America challenging the transaction on antitrust grounds.

While Paramount executives maintain confidence regarding the litigation, Warner Bros. Discovery continues to operate as an independent business. Management relied on lower operating expenses and cost discipline to soften the revenue decline and deliver a better-than-expected bottom line, even as employees, investors, and creative partners evaluate the company’s future ownership structure.
