Manhunt for Travis Decker Continues in Washington Wilderness
The search for Travis Decker, the subject of a massive manhunt in connection with the deaths of his three daughters, is ongoing in the rugged Washington wilderness. The kittitas County Sheriff’s Office has yet to release further details.
Decker is wanted for allegedly killing Paityn, 9; Evelyn, 8; and Olivia, 5. Thier bodies were discovered near a campsite in Washington earlier this month. According to court documents, authorities began searching for Decker on May 30, after his ex-wife reported that he failed to return the children following a court-ordered visitation. Three days later, the girls were found with plastic bags over their heads and their hands bound.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) previously reported that hikers spotted an individual near Colchuck Lake who seemed ill-prepared for the wilderness. Responding to the tip, authorities in a helicopter spotted a lone hiker off-trail, who then fled as the helicopter approached.Colchuck Lake is about 40 miles from Blewett Pass and 60 miles from Teanaway Valley by car.
Authorities released an updated flyer on Tuesday, showing renderings of how Decker may have altered his appearance. The flyer includes images of decker with and without facial hair, and wearing a baseball cap.
Officials also debunked a TikTok video that falsely claimed CCSO Sheriff Mike Morrison had announced Decker’s arrest after a standoff. The department clarified in a Facebook post that Decker is not in custody and that CCSO was not involved in creating the video.
The U.S. marshals Service is now the lead agency in the search for Decker, a former member of the military with wilderness survival skills. The Washington National Guard is assisting with aerial search and surveillance efforts.
Officials consider Decker armed and dangerous but do not believe he poses a threat to the general public. The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. He faces three counts of aggravated first-degree murder and kidnapping.
