Washington Women’s Basketball Earns Hard-Fought Overtime Victory Against Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. — The No. 24 Washington women’s basketball team demonstrated resilience and determination to secure a 91-86 road victory against Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies recorded their second-highest point total of the season in a game that required overtime to settle.
Sophomore Avery Howell led the Huskies with a career performance, scoring 34 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. This marked her sixth double-double of the season and a historic achievement – she is now the only player in Washington program history to reach at least 34 points and 14 rebounds in a single game.
Howell’s impact was particularly felt in crucial moments. She scored 13 points in the second half and added another nine in the overtime period, consistently delivering when her team needed her most. Her offensive prowess extended to six made three-pointers, matching her career-best, alongside two assists, one block, and one steal.
The Huskies received significant contributions from other players as well. Sayvia Sellers continued her consistent offensive output, scoring 23 points with five assists and four steals – a new season high for the guard. It was the eighth game of her career where she reached at least 20 points and five assists.
Elle Ladine also reached double figures, contributing 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. A key moment for Ladine came in the third quarter when a defensive rebound led to a fast break and an assist on a Howell and-one play, extending Washington’s lead. That rebound also marked the 500th of her collegiate career.
Washington’s shooting performance was a key factor in the victory. The team knocked down 13 three-pointers, their second-highest total of the season. They also demonstrated efficiency at the free-throw line, converting 16 of 18 attempts, including a four-point play earned by Howell after being fouled while making a three-pointer.
The Huskies dominated the boards, securing 40 rebounds compared to Wisconsin’s 30. Wisconsin struggled with offensive rebounding, managing only seven, a season low for the Badgers.
Looking ahead, Washington (18-6, 8-5 Big Ten) will continue its road trip with a challenging matchup against No. 10 Iowa on Wednesday, February 11, at 4:30 p.m. PT.
