Officials in Kerala will also be informed in a timely manner. Stalin says in a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has directed that the current water level in the Mullaperiyar Dam be maintained at 137.60. The court upheld the decision of the oversight committee to maintain the current water level. The court asked Kerala for time till 10 am tomorrow to reply to the committee’s recommendation. The case will be heard again tomorrow at 2 pm. A three-member bench headed by Justice AN Khanwilker will consider the petitions. The court is considering two petitions related to Mullaperiyar.

The petition filed by the Safety Charitable Trust seeking termination of the lease agreement on the ground that Tamil Nadu had breached the contract by failing to strengthen the dam and the second petition alleging that the oversight committee responsible for assessing the safety of the dam was absconding.

But Kerala is exaggerating the issue. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed the assembly that the dam is now safe and there is no need to worry. Therefore, the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam should be raised to 142 feet. Shekhar Nafade informed the court. But the court did not allow the water level to rise. In 2018, the Supreme Court ruled that the water level in the dam should be maintained at 139 feet during floods.
