Tragedy Strikes in Kasaragod: Three Women Killed in Train Accident

Kasaragod: A devastating train accident occurred near Kanhangad railway station, claiming the lives of three women. The victims, identified as Chinnamma (70), Alice Thomas (69), and Angel (30) of Kottayam Chingavanam, were returning from attending a wedding in Kallar when the Coimbatore – The Hisar train met with the accident. The incident occurred while the women were crossing the tracks, resulting in a fatal collision that left their bodies dismembered. The police promptly responded to the scene and intervened.

Cardamom Scam: Accused Arrested for Duping Farmers

Idukki: In a separate incident, an accused who allegedly duped farmers in the High Range region by procuring cardamom worth lakhs of rupees without paying for it has been arrested. Muhammad Nazir, a native of Palakkad, was taken into custody by a team led by Adimali police from Alappuzha.

The accused was apprehended yesterday afternoon and was taken to the Adimali police station at night. The case against him alleges that he procured cardamom from farmers in the name of Christmas trade through a company called N Green, but failed to pay for the produce.

In October 2023, the accused started purchasing cardamom from farmers in Konnthadi, Rajakumari, and Adimali regions, promising to pay Rs 500 to Rs 1000 more than the current market price if the farmers delivered their produce for a month. Although he paid the farmers for the first two months, he later stopped making payments, leaving the farmers with only receipts for their delivered cardamom.

The farmers lodged a complaint with the police after the accused failed to pay for the last cardamom harvest in July. The police registered a case and subsequently arrested the accused.
